Despite this, I have managed to make it to the hostel in Hollywood without dying of carbon monoxide poisoning.

Universal Studios, Sony Studios, Paramount Studios, Warner Bros. Studios etc.
I managed to (finally) read The Da Vinci Code in full in one sitting in about 6 hours en route to LA, just in time to understand the massive cryptic banners adorning the streets:
'So Dark The Con Of Man' etc.
Visualisations of Tom Hanks' mullet did not enhance the reading experience
